Writing again
While I am definitely (promise, cross my heart) getting back into my PhD studies, I am also taking this quiet break to write again, after all, my research involves storytelling and I should practise telling stories myself.
I am a member of Writer’s HQ and today - because I am not working - I could join one of their ‘write-alongs’. The prompt was about conflict and tension and I didn’t write much, but I wrote something.
Teeth clenched together, heart thudding like a tribal drumbeat ... and breathe. Amy loosened her jaw, took another breath, listened and waited for her heartbeat soften. It was going to be OK.
Shards of ceramic and crystals of sugar spread across the linoleum. She sighed and her knees protested as she knelt down to carefully pick up the larger pieces. Yet another delay to her day. Green eyes stared down at her from the kitchen counter, a ginger tail swished against her hair. Amy, irritation rising again, swatted it away and wondered (not for the first time) when her sister and, more importantly, her sister’s cat, were going to to move into their new home.
Now off to find all my PhD files and refamiliarise myself with what I have done so far. Sadly that lit review is not gonna write itself.
